Emmanuel, the certified software engineer graduate

I am pleased to be among the graduating class of 2023 at Moringa School! When I joined Ngong Children’s Foundation, I attended one of their focused elementary schools, where I sat for my national primary examinations and qualified for high school.

During my time here, I developed an interest in rugby. I joined the school’s rugby team; it was a great way for me to participate in an extracurricular sport while still studying. After graduating from high school, I enrolled at Kenyatta University to pursue a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.

I felt the need to improve my practical abilities in Software Engineering during my third year at Kenyatta University. To further this passion, I resolved to take a break from my degree program and enroll in Moringa School’s certificate course in Software Engineering. I got the opportunity to join the TechMates program as a development intern before beginning my study at Moringa. Taking my course while still interning was a fantastic experience since it allowed me to use the skills I was learning and acquire new ideas that were not always covered in class.

I finished my certificate course after 6 months of study and graduated at the top of my class on June 30th!

I am proud of myself for this achievement, and I hope to hit even greater milestones in the future. My gratitude goes out to my sponsor and the NRCF/FoNR program for believing in my abilities and helping me realize my dreams.

Gloria’s Story of Resilience and Opportunity: From financial hardship to educational success

I was born and raised in Nairobi. I was enrolled in one of the organization’s focus schools after joining NRCF, where I sat for my national elementary examination.

I performed well in the national exams and was able to gain admission to a girls’ high school in Narok County. After graduating from high school, I undertook NRCF’s computer package training, a program that is usually undertaken by high school graduates before joining higher learning institutions.

Amidst the training, the DirectEd Development Foundation partnered with NRCF to offer coding courses to high school graduates. I was privileged to participate in the introductory program of the DirectEd bootcamp. The program included a test, which I passed, and I qualified to attend the main bootcamp, where I was awarded an access scholarship. This scholarship provided me with a laptop, which has been instrumental in my learning journey during the bootcamp. Moreover, I was provided with a wifi device that ensures uninterrupted internet access, enabling me to fully immerse myself in the program’s online resources and coursework even when I am at home.

In the future, I would like to pursue project management as a method to provide something meaningful to individuals and businesses.

I’d like to express my heartfelt appreciation to my sponsors for always ensuring that I receive a high-quality education, which has helped me achieve many of my goals. I am particularly appreciative of the program for providing vital assistance in assuring my overall growth.

The transformative story of Millicent

My name is Millicent. My parents learned about the program through a family friend who had a child enrolled in the program. This sponsorship alleviated my family’s financial stress and enabled us to easily handle other costs.

I attended one of the NRCF’s targeted preparatory schools, where I sat for my national exams and eventually gained admission to a boarding girls high school in Kiambu County. After graduating from high school, I got the opportunity to enroll for NRCF computer package programs. This expanded my computer knowledge beyond what I learned in high school.

I enrolled at Kabete National Polytechnic to study Social Work and Community Development. I’m now looking forward to my December graduation. I am now interning as a digital marketer at the TechMates program, and I am grateful for the opportunity to develop new skills as a Digital marketer.

Thanks to the support I have received from NRCF, I have not only experienced significant personal growth but also been inspired to strive for new achievements. As I await graduation, I am extremely grateful to NRCF for believing in my abilities and for the transformative impact they have had on my life.

James, the aspiring IT guru

My name is James, and I was raised in Nairobi, Kenya. I was raised in a loving family with my parents, two sisters, and four brothers.

The Ngong Road Children’s Foundation’s assistance has been an asset to my family and me. I enrolled at one of their focused primary schools, where I completed my primary education. This was a significant milestone for me, as it marked the completion of my foundational education and provided me with a solid educational background. After graduating from primary school, I was able to continue my education at a boys high school in Nairobi. My high school years were filled with new experiences and interactions with people from diverse backgrounds. This exposure broadened my perspective and enriched my understanding of the world around me.

I graduated from high school with an above-average grade point average. I am currently waiting to begin my university studies.

At the moment, I am actively learning computer packages at the NRCF computer lab. This priceless opportunity has allowed me to learn critical computer skills that I feel will help me in many facets of my life. In addition, I got the great chance to enroll in the DirectEd bootcamp’s introductory program. This program of study required a test, and I am pleased that I received a Distinction. As a consequence, I was accepted into the main bootcamp and awarded an access scholarship. The scholarship gave me a laptop, which has been really useful in my learning journey during the bootcamp. Furthermore, I was given a Wi-Fi gadget that provides continuous internet connection, allowing me to completely immerse myself in the program’s online materials and assignments even while I am at home.

Taking part in the DirectEd bootcamp has been an enriching experience for me. It has allowed me to delve deeper into various computer languages, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python. These skills will undoubtedly play a significant role in my future endeavors, empowering me to pursue a career in the field of technology with confidence and proficiency. I am extremely grateful for the support and opportunities provided by NRCF and DirectEd Bootcamp. These experiences have been transformative, equipping me with the knowledge, resources, and skills necessary to pursue my aspirations in the field of Information Technology.

My ultimate goal is to join Kenyatta University to take a degree course in Information Technology. With a deep passion for technology, I aspire to work for leading tech companies such as Google or Microsoft as a software developer. I firmly believe that technology has the power to transform our culture, and I am determined to leverage it to bring positive change, especially considering the challenging circumstances of my upbringing in a financially disadvantaged family.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities and life-changing moments that the NRCF sponsorship has provided me. It has been a turning point in my life, and I am thankful for the doors it has opened and the transformative experiences it has offered me.

Transformative Story of Fammy

My name is Fammy. I learned about the program from a family acquaintance.

I informed my aunt, who made an application, and after passing the interview, I was admitted into the program. I got to join one of the program’s focus schools, where I sat for my Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

I later joined a national-level girls’ high school in Narok County. I studied there for four years, after which I sat for my national examinations. After attaining commendable grades, I felt a sense of joy and accomplishment, knowing that I was eligible to pursue my chosen career at any university of my choice. Prior to starting my university career, I completed a certificate course in Computer packages that is offered by NRCF. In September 2019, I proceeded to join Kabarak University in Nakuru County to take a Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Mass Communication. I saw the university as a place of growth and learning, providing me with valuable opportunities.

During my 3rd year of University, I did my attachment at a reputable news agency, where I got to gain a lot of experience. This experience allowed me to interact with different individuals, gain valuable skills, and develop my professional portfolio. I completed my 4-year course in April, and I am awaiting graduation, which will take place in December. I recently joined the TechMates program offered by NRCF, and I am taking the Digital Marketing path to top up the skills I have gained at school so as to increase my employability chances.

I am grateful to the NRCF program for the support it has given me, especially in my studies. I have been able to benefit from quality education, and now that I am about to graduate, I am honored to have been part of this program. Thank you for helping me transform my life.
