Empowering High School Graduates for 21st Century Success

The leap from high school to adulthood requires more than just academic knowledge; it requires a specialized toolkit for the 21st century. Our recent programs have equipped graduates with the resilience and practical expertise needed to navigate a rapidly changing landscape.

Three Pillars of Student Success

To ensure a holistic transition, our curriculum focused on three critical areas of development:

  • Life Skills Training: Beyond the classroom, students mastered essential “adulting” skills, including financial literacy, emotional intelligence, and effective conflict resolution.
  • Career Development: We moved past traditional job searching to focus on career agility, teaching students how to build personal brands and adapt to a shifting “gig” economy.
  • Substance Abuse Awareness: Protecting our students’ futures means equipping them with the facts. Our program focused on health-conscious decision-making and stress-management techniques to navigate new freedoms safely.

Insights from the Higher Education & Skills Expo

A central highlight was our students’ attendance at the Major Higher Education and Skills Expo. This event served as a compass for their next steps in education and vocational training.

Key Expo Takeaways:

  • The AI Revolution: Students explored how Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies are reshaping every industry, from medicine to the arts.
  • Practical Over Theoretical: The event emphasized that “knowing” is no longer enough; “doing” is the new currency. There was a heavy focus on gaining technical, hands-on skills.
  • 21st Century Adaptability: Experts guided students on how to prepare for a “borderless” world of work where the ability to learn and re-skill is the ultimate competitive advantage.

Ready for the Future

By blending personal wellness with professional strategy, our graduates aren’t just entering the workforce; they are prepared to lead it. They leave us with the mindset to embrace emerging trends and the character to handle life’s challenges with confidence.

Here We Go! Empowering 1,000 Children by 2030

The Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF) has launched an ambitious mission: to provide education and holistic care to 1,000 children by 2030. Our vision is to eliminate our waiting list, ensuring that every child in our community has a clear path to a brighter future.

This journey is already gaining momentum. For 2026, our goal is to onboard 100 new students, and we are proud to announce that the first 50 children were welcomed this January under our “Here We Go” campaign.

Onboarding is only the beginning. To ensure these children stay in school and truly thrive, sustained support is essential. We invite our community to partner with us through:

  • Sponsorships: Providing the daily essentials for a student’s success.
  • Scholarships: Securing long-term educational opportunities.
  • Donations: Funding the holistic care—including nutrition and social support—that allows a child to focus on their studies.

Together, we can transform lives—one child at a time. Join the “Here We Go” movement and help us reach our 2030 goal.

NRCF Hosts a Successful 2025 Annual General Meeting

On Saturday, December 6th, the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF) hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at City Prime in Ngando. The event was a powerful gathering, uniting over 300 families and more than 250 NRCF beneficiaries to celebrate a year of significant achievements and renew the commitment to transforming lives through education in Nairobi.

Key 2025 Successes Highlight the Education-to-Employment Model

The 2025 report showcased the expansive reach of the NRCF program:

  • 333 active beneficiaries received comprehensive support.
  • 264 alumni continued to receive guidance and mentorship.
  • 45 graduates successfully completed their post-secondary education this year.

The program’s core goal—sustainable employment—was strongly validated by an impressive 70% employment rate among alumni. This figure clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of NRCF’s education-to-employment model.

STEM and Digital Learning Drive Student Futures

Digital learning and early exposure to STEM careers proved to be a major highlight this year within the Elimu Hub. The initiative is successfully inspiring the next generation of technologists:

  • A notable 56% of Grade 9 learners selected STEM pathways, reflecting growing student interest and confidence in science and technology fields.

Launching the 5-Year Strategic Plan: Vision 2030

A major focus of the AGM was the official update on NRCF’s five-year strategic plan. This ambitious roadmap aims to significantly scale the Foundation’s reach:

  • Goal: Increase the number of active students supported to 1,000 by 2030.
  • Next Step: NRCF plans to support 100 new students in 2026 as part of its goal to reduce the waiting list to zero by its 20th anniversary.

Parents were fully engaged in the discussion, which also covered plans for strengthening program delivery and deepening support for families and local communities.

NRCF extends heartfelt appreciation to the partners and friends who made this year’s AGM a success, including: Bimeda Limited, Braeburn School, Kimfay East Africa, Teleflex, and Alesan Sisters

Alumnus sponsors a child.

Emmanuel always recognized how valuable his education was. With the support of his sponsor behind him, he approached his studies with genuine gratitude and unwavering commitment. Throughout his school years, Emmanuel demonstrated remarkable determination; he didn’t just meet expectations, he exceeded them. Despite the challenges and distractions that came his way, he stayed focused and consistently worked hard.

His journey is a powerful reminder of how meaningful support, paired with a student’s dedication, can open doors to life-changing opportunities. Watching Emmanuel remain true to his dream of completing his education and building a brighter future was truly inspiring. Yet his story didn’t stop once he secured employment. In a heartfelt expression of appreciation and generosity, Emmanuel made a decision that speaks volumes about his character. He chose to become a sponsor himself.

Today, Emmanuel is supporting a child through our organization, offering another young person the same transformative chance he once received. His decision represents a beautiful full-circle moment of kindness. It reflects his deep understanding of how critical that early support was in shaping his own life. Emmanuel has grown from being a success story into a role model, someone who is giving back, lifting others, and ensuring that the cycle of hope and opportunity continues for the next generation.

NRCF Celebrates DirectEd Programme Graduates

The Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF) aims to challenge, empower, and prepare its students for a successful future. This commitment was recently demonstrated when five of our post-secondary students Raymond, June, Boaz, Edmond, and Evelyne completed the DirectEd Development Foundation Bootcamp Programme.

After months of intensive training, they proudly joined 34 other graduates from Kenya and Ethiopia who completed the third edition of the program. These young innovators gained practical skills in three important and in-demand areas:

  • Full-Stack Web Development Fundamentals
  • Generative AI Engineering Fundamentals
  • User Interface and Experience Design Fundamentals

The graduation ceremony, hosted by Blockchain Centre NBO, was a celebration of growth and creativity. Our beneficiaries didn’t just complete lessons; they built real projects, collaborated across teams, solved problems, and pushed beyond their comfort zones.

They leave this program not only with certificates but with the skills and confidence to create, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to the fast-growing tech ecosystem in Africa.

Among the proud graduates, Raymond stood out as one of the 12 top-performing students selected to join the DirectEd Talent Programme. This achievement means he will now access paid internship opportunities with DirectEd and its partner companies.

We celebrate our graduates for their determination and success and will continue doing what we do best, which is to transform lives through education and opportunity.
