Dreams of a Future Surgeon

My name is Tiana, and I am 11 years old. I live with my grandma and I have two siblings. My hobbies include reading and acrobatics, and my favorite book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. In 2021, I joined the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation and was enrolled at Jagiet Academy, which is one of the program’s focus schools.

Currently, I’m in grade six, and during my free time, I like to learn new things and review the lessons taught by teachers. My favorite subjects are science and mathematics. I love mathematics because it’s like a puzzle that helps me understand the world, and science because it teaches me about plants, animals, the human body, weather, and even outer space! Science also encourages me to think critically and be curious.

When I want to relax, I enjoy reading, and sometimes, I listen to music. My dream is to become a surgeon because they have the skills and knowledge to fix people up. Surgeons can perform surgeries and use special tools to make people healthy again. It is amazing how they can fix broken bones, remove tumors, and even transplant organs. Being a surgeon would also allow me to make a real difference in people’s lives and learn even more about the human body.

During Saturday programs, I like spending time with our mentors, participating in different sports activities, and creating stories with my friends. I also visit the Elimu Hub during school holidays to learn from the internet and play educational games. In the future, I would love to visit Disney World, Florida, and see the four Theme Parks in person.

Making women feel their absolute best

I am Metrine, and I grew up in Nairobi. Since I was a young girl, I have always had a passion for traveling, reading, and cooking. Life growing up was challenging especially when it came to my educational journey but in 2012, things started to change when I became a part of the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation. I joined the NRCF program and I was really excited to start this new chapter of my educational journey. I moved from my previous school and got enrolled into Jagiet Academy

Jagiet Academy was where I excelled in my studies, conquering challenges that once felt impossible. I worked hard, and it paid off as I moved on to Highridge Girls High School for my secondary eduation. There, I continued to grow both academically and personally and it is also where I developed a passion for beauty. My unwavering determination led me to follow my dreams in beauty therapy and nail technology.

Beauty Therapy

After completing my high school education, I joined Vera Beauty College and started my course. I really loved the course I was taking and because I had a passion for it, I quickly grasped the skills I needed. I enjoyed making women feel confident and beautiful and seeing their smiles warmed my heart and it was also a huge validation for me. After graduating from College, I was privileged to get a job at a nail spa and this is where I am currently working. I am also privileged to be the team leader at the nail spa. My future aspirations are that of owning my own beauty parlor and even becoming a flight attendant.

This far, I owe it all to the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation and my sponsor. Their belief in my potential gave me the chance to pursue my education and thrive. My journey is far from over, but one thing is certain: with their support, my future shines brighter than ever. Through hard work and guidance from the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation, I continue to chase my dreams with unwavering enthusiasm and hope for a successful future.

Passion for Dance and Art

My name is Mirriam and I’m a 10-year-old girl in the fourth grade. I have two hobbies that I love: dancing and art. I joined the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation in 2023 and I am currently enrolled in the Nelson Mandela Academy, where I am thriving academically and learning many new things.

Passion for Dance and Art

During my free time, I love spending time with my friends in school, where we study, play, and have fun together. My favorite sport is athletics, and I am particularly passionate about running. I always look forward to Saturdays when I can participate in sports activities, learn new art skills, enjoy a delicious meal, and catch up with my friends.

One person who inspires me is Charles Richard Drew, an American surgeon and medical researcher who made significant contributions to blood transfusions. I admire his dedication and contribution to the medical field, particularly how he developed improved blood storage techniques and applied his expert knowledge to develop large-scale blood banks early in World War II.

To improve my academic skills, I use the Elimu Hub. I attend computer classes once a week, which I find thrilling as I am improving my computer skills. I also enjoy reading books from the platform, which have helped me improve my English language skills. I am grateful for the support the program is giving me and I will continue to work hard and make my sponsor proud as well as myself.

A Champion for Persons With Disability

My name is Bradley, I am 20 years old and I joined the program in 2010. I went to Jagiet Academy from grade one to grade eight, and then I joined Rev. Muhoro Secondary School For the Deaf. Currently, I am taking a Diploma course in Information Technology at Zetech University. I do that because I have always loved interacting with computers and dealing with things related to technology. I will be graduating in November 2024 and after that, I hope to get a job that will enhance my skills and knowledge in the IT field. I am planning to advance my career to the degree level to tap into other areas of IT.

Outside of my studies, I am actively involved in volunteering with the organization, Kenya Sign Language (KSL). I began collaborating with them in 2018 when I joined Rev. Muhoro School for the Deaf, as I am partially deaf. In my role as an IT student, I assist in various capacities, such as developing educational resources, creating accessible content, and offering technical support for digital platforms aimed at promoting sign language literacy and accessibility.

I strive to break down communication barriers for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. By supporting the dissemination of sign language resources and fostering greater understanding and appreciation for KSL, I envision a more inclusive society where everyone has equal access to information and opportunities. I also serve as an IT manager in the deaf department at my church, All Saints Cathedral, where I ensure the AV systems are well set up, the website is operational, and the data is protected. I also love to drive, code, and dance!

I am truly grateful to the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation for the educational support they offer me. I aspire to create more impact in my community and give back to the program in the future.

Passions and Pathways

My name is Stacy, and I’m an 18-year-old girl with a passion for drawing, dancing, and cooking. Drawing has been my go-to hobby for expressing myself, and dancing helps me stay fit and active. When it comes to cooking, I must say I make the best egg omelette you’ll ever taste!

I joined Ngong Road Children’s Foundation back in 2016, when I was in grade five at Jagiet Academy. I recently completed my high school education at Oletipis Girls, and my favorite subjects were maths and English. During my free time, I used to play netball and relay races.

My brother is my role model because he works tirelessly and with utmost focus. However, I used to struggle with self-doubt, which was my greatest challenge. Thankfully, through the life skills program offered by Ngong Road Children’s Foundation, I learned to trust my instincts and make quick decisions.

As for my interests, I’m torn between two options: being a detective or an air hostess. I love offering and serving people, and I also believe in the law. I’m confident that with the skills I’ve learned at Ngong Road Children’s Foundation, I can excel in either field.

I’m grateful for the opportunities and support I’ve received from Ngong Road Children’s Foundation over the years. Their programs have helped me build my confidence, develop life skills, and pursue my dreams. Ngong Road Children’s Foundation is truly a remarkable organization that transforms the lives of children and their families.
