Sales Mastery with Miss Amran Abdi

On January 12th, a sales guide and training session was conducted by Miss Amran Abdi, an expert in school consultation and an entrepreneur. The training started with an introduction from the alumni team present and kicked off with a powerful quote: “Everything is Everything”, a business concept that emphasizes the interconnectedness of all aspects of a company. It’s like a harmonious orchestration where each department, decision, and action functions like musical notes contributing to the success and flow of the business.

 Sales Mastery Training

The main aim of this training session was to teach attendees how to sell anything to anyone. The training covered various aspects of business, including knowledge of the product, evaluation, the importance of a call to action, effective communication techniques, the power of listening, the impacts of telling a selling story, understanding client needs, aligning with the client’s objectives, and building trust and rapport.

The attendees also learned the benefits of seeking feedback and the power of testimonials. Miss Amran offered our alumni an opportunity to work as sales agents for her new school consultation firm. She promised to continue educating them on business innovation and how to go about it.

 Sales Mastery Training

The session ended with two powerful quotes: “Innovate or die” – by constantly exploring new ideas, technologies, and processes, businesses can remain competitive, attract new customers, and retain existing ones. And “Some will, some won’t, so what next?” – the key is to focus on interested people and find ways to connect with them. It is important to understand that not everyone will be your target audience, but that doesn’t mean you should give up. Instead, you should keep looking for ways to reach those interested and find creative ways to engage with them.

The sales mastery was not just a training session but a transformative experience that left our alumni with a new perspective on the art of selling a business. We are continually ensuring that we equip our alumni with skills that will help them in their personal and professional journeys of transformation.

Alumni Gathering 2023

The Ngong Road Children’s Foundation hosted its annual Alumni General Meeting at the Impala Ground on Ngong Road on December 3rd. More than 60 enthusiastic alumni attended, making it a day filled with smiles and anticipation.

The event kicked off with a delightful breakfast, creating a welcoming environment for alumni to connect and share their experiences. Callen Moraa, the assistant Alumni Coordinator and alumni case manager extended a warm welcome to our esteemed alumni, fostering an atmosphere of inclusivity and unity. During the event, Mr. Paul Dalizu delivered a compelling keynote address, stressing the significance of protocol, respect, perseverance, and trusting the process in personal and professional growth.

A summary of the alumni representative meeting with Paula Mayor, the program’s founder and president, provided insights into ongoing issues, paving the way for resolutions. Maurine Ngetich, the Data Protection Officer, outlined essential guidelines on personal information. Transparency in data usage by Ngong Road Children’s Foundation was ensured through the distribution of consent forms to the alumni.

Small Business Training Programme

During our 2022 alumni survey, a significant proportion of our graduates reported an interest in gaining business skills to assist them in starting their own full-time business or a side hustle business in addition to their primary sources of income. We started a small business management training program earlier this year to train our graduates how to plan, establish, comply with local authorities, and run a profitable business.

The training was divided into two phases: The introduction phase and the main training phase. 34 alumni attended the introduction phase before going through an assessment to determine those who proceeded to the next phase. The outcome was as follows:

  • 34 alumni trained in the introduction phase (Introduction to Small Business and Taxation)
  • 20 proceeded to phase two (10 weeks of training)
  • 10 completed both trainings and graduated with a certificate and a toolkit to start or grow their business.

The 10-week training took place at our Elimu Hub campus and was facilitated by Be The Leader (BTL), an employability and job preparedness training organization founded by a Kenyan youth named Cavin Apondo, who has also partnered with American Corner Moi to provide training on employability, career development, leadership, entrepreneurship, and other topics to the youth.

The Small Business Management training program provided the alumni with a comprehensive understanding of business concepts, strategies, and practices. They learned about the importance of financial management, business ideas, and market research. The program also taught them how to create a comprehensive business plan, identify opportunities for innovation, and evaluate the feasibility of their business ideas. Financial management concepts were also covered, including revenue, costs, profit, and cash flow. They were introduced to different funding options and legal structures for startups, such as sole proprietorship, partnership, and incorporation. Risk management was also covered, identifying potential threats and addressing them. The training program had a significant impact on the trainees, enhancing their knowledge and skills, fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, and enabling them to develop and refine business ideas. The program also fostered confidence and motivation in the trainees, empowering them to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations.

The graduation ceremony marked the end of the training program. They received a toolkit essential for their respective businesses and certificates, marking the beginning of a new chapter for their businesses.

Fun, Talent, and Celebration at Ngong Road Children Foundation

Last Saturday at Ngong Road Children Foundation was nothing short of spectacular! The day kicked off with an energy-packed warm-up session of singing and dancing that left our souls buzzing. But that was just the beginning!

During the short break, high schoolers rejoined us for the end-of-term holiday, creating a vibrant atmosphere of mingling and interaction. Lunch was a hearty affair, with children enjoying good food and connecting with their mates. The day gained even more significance as we celebrated the birthday of one of our esteemed alumni, Elizabeth.

What made the day truly special was the initiation of rehearsals for our upcoming Annual General Meeting presentations. The music and drama club took center stage, working on a captivating choral piece that focused on discipline. With a new, professional, and kind trainer leading the way, the club formed a fantastic team, setting the tone for an exciting AGM.

Our Taekwondo team showcased their defensive skills with high-flying kicks, all delivered with beaming smiles and infectious joy. The dancing team stole the show, displaying neck breaking and awe-inspiring moves during a test rehearsal to determine the best performers for the AGM.

The Art Club was in full swing, boasting talented and sharp artists among its members. They diligently prepared their best works for upcoming presentations, not forgetting the Financial Literature Club, emphasizing the vital role of financial literacy in life.

As the day unfolded, club presentations captivated the audience. We were thrilled to celebrate the birthday of Elizabeth, a mentor and a lawyer, as we cut the cake and indulged in snacks. It was a moment filled with joy and excitement, a fitting end to a day that showcased the incredible talents and achievements of our children at Ngong Road Children Foundation.

Ngong Road Children Foundation continues to be a place where dreams take flight, skills are honed, and celebrations are shared. Here’s to more Saturdays filled with warmth, laughter, and the promise of a brighter future for every child we support.

Empowering Students through Sexual Reproductive Health Education

Sexual reproductive health is a fundamental aspect of overall well-being, encompassing physical, emotional, and social dimensions of human life. It involves the ability to make informed choices regarding one’s sexual activity, access to healthcare and contraception, and the promotion of healthy relationships, ensuring individuals can lead fulfilling and satisfying lives. Understanding and advocating for sexual reproductive health is essential for achieving gender equality, personal autonomy, and overall societal progress.

 youth empowerment

At Ngong Road Children’s Foundation, we recently organized a three-day training program for sexual reproductive health aimed at our high school students in forms one, two, and three. Over 70 students attended this program with the primary goal of addressing the rising trends of pregnancies and STI infections, while also providing knowledge on how to navigate crucial life situations.

The training sessions were held within the ELIMU HUB library, creating a safe and conducive environment for open discussions. The students were receptive and enthusiastic about the program. One form three student shared, “SRH has been impactful, and I have learned the importance of abstaining from sexual intercourse. I will surely spread the word to my friends.”

The program was conducted by our Youth Peer Providers (YPP), who covered essential topics such as adolescence, contraceptives, relationships, STIs, and safe sex. Additionally, the students engaged in various icebreakers and demonstrations, making the learning experience interactive and enjoyable.

In today’s rapidly changing world, knowledge and awareness of sexual reproductive health are indispensable. Programs like this not only equip our youth with essential life skills but also contribute to building a healthier and more informed society. We take a significant step towards a more equitable and progressive future by empowering the younger generation to make informed choices and promoting healthy relationships.
