A BBIT Graduate

When Perpetual joined the program in 2010, it was like opening a door to a new world. Growing up in the slums of Dagoretti, getting quality education had always seemed like an impossible dream. But Perpetual was a bright, determined student ready to change her story. From her early days in primary school, she worked tirelessly, showing an unbreakable spirit and incredible hard work. By 2019, her dreams took her to one of the country’s top universities. There, she started a Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT) degree course, a challenging four-year journey that she successfully completed in 2023.

Throughout her university years, Perpetual didn’t just shine in her studies, she also poured her heart into helping others. Every Saturday, she volunteered at the NRCF program, offering guidance and support to younger students who looked up to her. With her passion for photography, she captured and shared the stories of many, hoping to inspire others to support not just one student, but the entire program. Her impressive resume includes a contract position with Lido Nation, one of NRCF’s valued partners, where she worked as a blockchain website translator. Additionally, she was a vital member of the TechMates team, contributing her talents as a developer.  She is actively seeking a tech support position.

Perpetual attributes her clear and promising future to the unwavering support of the program. Her family, particularly her grandmother, are beyond excited to have seen Perpetual putting on a graduation gown, something they never thought they would live to witness. “The education and development opportunities provided to her have been life-changing, paving the way for her to achieve her dream of hearing her name being mentioned as a graduate”, her grandmother smilingly said. She is now a graduate and on the verge of entering the professional world, armed with knowledge, experience, and a deep-seated gratitude for the support that has brought her this far. Congratulations Perpetual on your graduation!

A Social Work Graduate

In 2009, Gslaider joined our program after years of her parents’ uncertainty over whether she would ever get the chance to go to school; trapped in a cycle of poverty like so many others. Joining the program was a source of hope not only for Gslaider but for the entire family. Fueled by this hope, Gslaider embarked on her educational journey. After graduating high school, she pursued a diploma in Social Work and Community Development, driven by a deep desire to help others. She completed her degree last November and graduated recently. It was not just an academic pursuit for her; it was a heartfelt mission to enhance human well-being and make a tangible difference in her community.

Her commitment to social work was evident as she engaged in various volunteer activities during her college years. She joined the Rotary Club of Mount Kenya, where she actively participated in fieldwork and volunteered at children’s homes and rehabilitation centers. She interned with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), which provided her with invaluable insights and deepened her understanding of the struggles faced by individuals with disabilities.

Currently, she works as a waiter and cashier in a restaurant as she looks for employment in her field. This job is enabling her to support herself and her siblings, something she never thought she would be able to do. Her mom is proud of her, and she is hopeful that her determination and success will serve as an example to other girls in the community, showing them that it is possible to break free from the vicious cycle of poverty. Her journey has been profoundly impacted by our program, allowing her transformation from a hopeless girl into an elite achiever.

Emmanuel, the certified software engineer graduate

I am pleased to be among the graduating class of 2023 at Moringa School! When I joined Ngong Children’s Foundation, I attended one of their focused elementary schools, where I sat for my national primary examinations and qualified for high school.

During my time here, I developed an interest in rugby. I joined the school’s rugby team; it was a great way for me to participate in an extracurricular sport while still studying. After graduating from high school, I enrolled at Kenyatta University to pursue a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science.

I felt the need to improve my practical abilities in Software Engineering during my third year at Kenyatta University. To further this passion, I resolved to take a break from my degree program and enroll in Moringa School’s certificate course in Software Engineering. I got the opportunity to join the TechMates program as a development intern before beginning my study at Moringa. Taking my course while still interning was a fantastic experience since it allowed me to use the skills I was learning and acquire new ideas that were not always covered in class.

I finished my certificate course after 6 months of study and graduated at the top of my class on June 30th!

I am proud of myself for this achievement, and I hope to hit even greater milestones in the future. My gratitude goes out to my sponsor and the NRCF/FoNR program for believing in my abilities and helping me realize my dreams.

Maisy Story

Maisy Njeri joined the NRCF program in 2014 when she was in Grade 5. She was raised by her mother having lost her father at a tender age. Later after her mother and her other siblings moved to the village due to the high cost of living, Maisy moved in with her grandmother who resides in one of the slums in Dagoretti so that she could continue getting education support from the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF).

Maisy worked hard in school through the support accorded to her by NRCF and finished her primary and secondary education. She later pursued a diploma in beauty therapy which has been her passion since her childhood and graduated in 2022.

Maisy Njeri currently works in one of the best spas in Nairobi as a consultant beautician. She is able to comfortably support her mother and siblings. Her life and that of her family have been transformed through the support from her sponsor and the friends of Ngong Road in general.

She is grateful to NRCF and more so her sponsor in the USA for believing in her and giving her the gift of education enabling her to better her life and that of her family.

Transform a life today.

First Class Honors

This year has been incredible for us in terms of getting exceptional performances from our students and Sallyanne is one of those students who has made us extremely proud. Sallyanne has become the first student ever since the organization started to get first-class honors! This is the highest achievement ever made by a post-secondary student.

Sallyanne joined Kabarak University in May 2018 and was admitted to the Bachelor of Mass Communication. She was doing exceptionally well in her studies as could be seen from her end-of-semester results. In September of 2021, she was attached to a local radio station where she worked for three months and December marked the end of her studies.

In January 2022, Sallyanne was among the first students to join the TechMates program where she specialized in Digital Marketing. She has since been creating content for both the NRCF and FoNR websites as well as managing the content on both social media pages and she helps in training new Digital Marketing TechMates who join the program. It is from the program that she got an opportunity to work with Lido Nation which is a Cardano staking pool. She works for Lido Nation as a content writer, a website translator, a social media manager and she is also a trainer for mentees who would like to learn more about Blockchain. The greatest highlight of working for Lido Nation was when she became a co-proposer in a proposal that got funded.

Sallyanne graduated on the 16th of December 2022 making her a journalist by profession. She received an award during the annual AGM as the first student to get first-class honors. Her role model is Larry Madowo and she hopes to become an equally great journalist. She has set the pace for our post-secondary students and we hope that many will follow suit. Congratulations Sallyanne!
