Break the Cycle of Poverty in Kenya – FoNR

Many initiatives are working tirelessly to break the cycle of poverty in Kenya and create lasting change. Countless children face daily struggles to access education, food, and healthcare. Through programs such as child sponsorship, these young learners are given the chance to rise above hardship and pursue a brighter future.

Friends of Ngong Road (FoNR) is an example of a nonprofit helping children in Kenya achieve this transformation. Specifically, we connect vulnerable children in the slums of Dagoretti with sponsors. As a result, these children receive quality education, regular meals, and consistent mentorship. Through this comprehensive support, they experience not only academic progress but also personal development. Ultimately, FoNR’s sponsorship model is helping to break the cycle of poverty by giving children the tools and encouragement they need to thrive..

Why Breaking the Cycle of Poverty in Kenya Matters

The cycle of poverty has been a major setback for many children in Kenya, with many missing opportunities to tap into their potential. However, through education, healthcare, and community support, there is a growing movement aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty. Programs such as child sponsorship are helping children gain access to the tools they need to succeed, offering them the chance to work toward brighter futures.

Organizations like FoNR go beyond simply paying school fees. They focus on holistic growth by offering programs that prepare children for the job market. This investment in well-rounded development strengthens entire communities, not just individual lives. The impact of breaking the cycle of poverty in Kenya is evident in the success stories of children who have graduated. With continued sponsorship and the dedication of nonprofits, the vision of an empowered generation in Kenya is becoming a reality. It therefore brings much delight to the numerous organizations involved when children in Kenya excel. Be part of the vision. Break the cycle of poverty in Kenya!

Child Sponsorship in Africa.

Child sponsorship in Africa has gained widespread popularity in recent years, with many children becoming beneficiaries. Child sponsorship goes beyond meeting immediate needs; it builds a pathway to lasting change. When a sponsor invests in a child’s education, health, and overall well-being, the effects are felt not only in that child’s life but also in their family and community. Through these programs, they receive essential needs such as education and healthcare, which set them on the road to a brighter future.

Consequently, choosing to sponsor a student in Nairobi allows donors to connect directly with young learners who face daily economic challenges. This initiative not only supports their schooling but also motivates long-term commitment to their holistic growth and transformation.

Child Sponsorship-Love without borders.

Becoming a child’s sponsor is being their hero. It is an act of immense love and compassion. Many children in the less privileged regions of Africa have found hope through child sponsorship. Various organizations have had the vision of connecting these children to their sponsors, one of which is Ngong’ Road Children Foundation.

NRCF has a vision to eradicate poverty through education and has achieved that through the success stories of our alumni. Moreover, we continue to champion child sponsorship in our efforts to create a better tomorrow for the community and its people. We foresee a better Africa with stronger policymakers and skilled professionals in the marketplace as a result of child sponsorship.

Sponsored children are more likely to stay in school and develop skills that prepare them for stable careers. Moreover, the support they receive fosters hard work and resilience, enabling them to face life’s challenges boldly. In this way, every act of sponsorship plants a seed for stronger communities and a brighter future for Africa.

Be part of the journey of helping a child.

Support a Child in Kenya: How Sponsorship Transforms Lives

One of the powerful ways to support a child in Kenya is child sponsorship. By providing financial support, sponsors help fund education, healthcare, and nutritious meals, giving children the tools they need to build a brighter future.

The concept of child sponsorship in Africa has grown steadily over the years. Today, more organizations are offering programs that connect sponsors directly with the children they support. Through this connection, a bond is formed, which inspires deeper commitment and long-term involvement in community development.

Why Support a child in Kenya?

Many African countries face economic challenges, with varying levels of industrialization and income. However, in lower-income regions, the gap between earnings and the cost of living is huge. Consequently, families struggle to consistently provide for their children’s basic needs, such as education, healthcare, and nutritious food. Unfortunately, this is the case for some children in Kenya. As a result, many children struggle to access opportunities that could transform their lives. Without intervention, the cycle of poverty continues from one generation to the next.

Fortunately, through child sponsorship, many Kenyan children have had the opportunity to complete their education. Besides that, sponsorship programs provide platforms for holistic growth, equipping the young people with skills to become resourceful in their countries.

One such example is Ngong Road Children’s Foundation, a non-profit organization in Kenya. That has helped numerous students become part of the life-changing story through child sponsorship in Kenya. We believe education is one of the powerful ways to break the cycle of poverty. For this reason, we put in effort to connect these children to sponsors who can support their journey towards a brighter future

Raymond: A visionary leader in the making

My name is Raymond. I grew up in Kabiria in the Dagoretti area, coming from a struggling family. Raised by my grandmother, I experienced firsthand the challenges of financial hardship. My early education began at Kayole Hekima Academy, where my aunt and extended family worked tirelessly to support my school fees and basic needs. However, despite their collective efforts, it was still not enough.

Recognizing the importance of education in shaping my future, my grandmother took it upon herself to seek help. She discovered the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF) and sought assistance. After a rigorous process, I was fortunate enough to be approved for sponsorship. This marked a turning point in my life. I was sponsored by Sharon, who generously covered all my educational expenses. I had never felt so much joy and relief. For the first time, I truly believed that I had a chance to succeed.

After joining NRCF, I moved to Jagiet Academy, one of the program’s focus schools, as a class 6 student. This institution was well-regarded, and I was determined to make the most of the opportunity. That same year, I was appointed as the class prefect. My class teacher saw a spark of leadership in me, a recognition that fueled my confidence and growth as a young leader despite coming from a humble background. The outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 disrupted education worldwide, but for me, it became an opportunity to advance academically. With schools closed, my family hired a private tutor—a high school graduate—to help me improve my studies. During this period, I particularly strengthened my skills in Mathematics. In 2021, I sat for my end of primary education examinations and achieved an impressive score, earning me a place at The Machakos School for my secondary education.

High school was a transformative period for me. The organization continued to provide invaluable support, offering programs in life skills, computer training, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and mental health awareness. Their encouragement made my high school journey smoother and equipped me with essential knowledge to navigate life’s challenges. I completed my KCSE in 2024, attaining a grade of B.

Since finishing high school, I have been fortunate to participate in further training programs facilitated by the organization. Looking ahead, I aspire to pursue a degree in Computer Science at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). This institution is renowned for its cutting-edge facilities and high-quality education in technology. My passion for technology drives me to become an innovator in the field, transforming ideas into reality and contributing meaningfully to the world of tech.

I extend my deepest gratitude to my sponsor and the NRCF for their unwavering support and belief in me. Their generosity has shaped my journey, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

As Albert Einstein once said, “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.” I strive to live by these words, aiming not only for personal success but also to contribute positively to society and inspire others who, like me, come from humble beginnings.

Priscah’s passion for fashion and design

Growing up in Kawangware, Priscah faced many challenges, but with determination and support, she has built a promising future in the fashion industry. In 2007, when Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF) had just started, Priscah joined the program and was fortunate to receive sponsorship from Bridget. This support provided her with access to quality education, starting at Jagiet Academy in Grade 2. Later, she transferred to G.S.U Primary School, where she completed her primary education in 2013.

Priscah then joined Kibiru Girls High School, where she studied from 2014 to 2017, preparing herself for the next stage of her journey. With a growing passion for fashion and design, Priscah pursued a certificate in fashion and design at the Amboseli Institute of Hospitality and Technology from 2018 to 2020.

To gain hands-on experience, she secured an attachment and internship at Izulu Company in Parklands from 2020 to 2021. This opportunity helped her sharpen her skills and understand the realities of the fashion industry. In 2022, Priscah ventured into self-employment, working outside her trained field while figuring out her next move. However, her love for fashion remained strong, leading her to join The Ngao Foundation in 2024, where she is currently working in the fashion design sector.

Looking ahead, Priscah dreams of owning her own fashion house and boutique, turning her passion into a thriving business. Thanks to NRCF’s support, Priscah has transformed her life and is on her way to achieving her dreams in the fashion industry.
