Ngong Road Children’s Foundation, in collaboration with the US embassy, hosted a successful event on World Youth Skills Day, aimed at empowering youth with the necessary skills for success in today’s job market. The event, held at the American Corner Moi, brought together digital marketers, educators, and youth advocates to bridge the skills gap among young individuals.
The keynote address was delivered by Martha Otieno, a renowned community development professional with extensive experience working with disadvantaged youth, marginalized women, and vulnerable individuals. She is also our Employment Programs Officer, helping our alumni develop their employability and entrepreneurship skills through various trainings. Martha’s address focused on informal thinking and higher-level technical skill adaptation, highlighting the importance of creativity, adaptability, and innovative problem-solving in today’s rapidly evolving job market.
During her speech, she emphasized the undeniable importance of technical skills in today’s rapidly evolving world. She underscored that acquiring technical expertise empowers young people to excel in various fields and opens doors to diverse opportunities. Technical skills have become an integral part of success, and fostering them from an early age can significantly impact future prospects. One of the highlights was her emphasis on informal thinking.
