Our mission is to support students on their journey to life transformation. We believe impoverished young people transform their lives by getting an education and then a job. We enhance students’ employability through Life Skills Training, Career Development Assistance, Employment Opportunity Maximization, Entrepreneurship Training, and an Alumni Programme. We also have intern and employment opportunities at Ngong Road Children’s Foundation, and with Karibu Loo Limited.

Entrepreneurship Training Programme
Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF) has expanded its strategic approach by introducing employment as the fourth pillar, complementing its existing three-pillar model. This new pillar reflects NRCF’s commitment to supporting alumni beyond education by enhancing their employability.
A key component of this pillar is the Entrepreneurship Programme, a structured initiative designed to empower interested and motivated NRCF alumni. The program aims to equip them with essential entrepreneurial skills, knowledge, and the right mindset to identify viable business opportunities and successfully launch and manage their own ventures. Through this training, NRCF seeks to foster innovation, independence, and long-term economic stability among its alumni.
Apprenticeship Training Programs
The objective of the apprenticeship program is to provide NRCF beneficiaries with hands-on, practical work experience through structured opportunities that develop technical, professional, and life skills. This initiative is designed to prepare alumni for sustainable employment and entrepreneurship, while also strengthening partnerships with industry players to enhance real-world exposure and job readiness.
Alumni interested in participating are required to apply through the NRCF Alumni Department. As part of the onboarding process, applicants are assessed based on their vocational training background and demonstrated interest in hands-on trades. This ensures a strong match between the apprentices and the available opportunities, maximizing the program’s impact and effectiveness.
Alumni Programme
This Programme supports students in obtaining internship opportunities and job placements through seeking and creating relationships or networks with employers following graduation. It also helps and encourages alumni to give back to the NRCF community regarding their time, in-kind and monetary gifts, and an annual gathering to reconnect with other alumni.
Alumni Survey
Among the 169 alumni respondents, 118 (70%) are currently earning an income—an improvement from 68% in 2024. 30% are unemployed, which is significantly lower than national youth unemployment estimates. In Kenya, youth unemployment remains a pressing concern. According to the Federation of Kenyan Employers, the overall unemployment rate in Kenya is 12.7%, but youth aged 15–34, who make up 35% of the population, experience much higher rates, with some estimates reaching 67% when underemployment is included. The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (2019 Census) reported that youth aged 18–34 constituted approximately 14 million people, with 35% unemployed or underemployed.

Our current Alumni survey data shows that:

- 70% (118 alumni) of the alumni are earning income. Out of the 118, 49% are in formal employment, 34% in informal employment, and 17% are self-employed. These employment outcomes remain higher than the national youth average.
- 50% of the alumni are earning above average annual earnings of 20k, while 50% are earning below the National Average earnings.
- 75% of the alumni are the primary providers in their households, with the majority supporting 2 or more others. 61% of alumni have savings.
- Among the employed alumni, 78(66%) are in supervision roles.
- Among alumni in formal and informal employment, 21.4% have received a job promotion in the past 12 months
- Among alumni who attended employment programs, 61%(56) are currently employed.
