Pacifikah: A Student Leader and Rugby Hero

At Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF), we are very proud of our students. Today, we celebrate Pacifikah, a young woman who shows us what hard work and leadership look like.

Pacifikah is currently in her 3rd year at Eldoret National Polytechnic. She is studying a Diploma in Counseling and Psychology Level 6. She is not just a student; she is a leader who makes a difference every day.

A Strong Voice for Students

In school, Pacifikah is the Class Representative. This means her classmates chose her to lead them. She is very vocal and is never afraid to speak up for others.

Because she is studying psychology, she is very good at:

  • Helping others: She listens to her friends when they have problems.
  • Leading: She helps her class stay organized and talk to their teachers.
  • Being Brave: She uses her voice to make sure every student is treated fairly.

A Champion on the Rugby Field

When she is not in the classroom, Pacifikah is on the sports field. She plays rugby for the school team.

Rugby is a tough and fast sport. It requires a lot of energy and teamwork. By playing rugby, Pacifikah has learned how to be strong, disciplined, and a team player. She brings that same “never give up” spirit to her studies and her life at NRCF.

Our Pride at NRCF

Pacifikah’s story is a great example for all the children at Ngong Road Children’s Foundation. She shows that with support and hard work, you can become:

  1. A great student in a professional field.
  2. A brave leader who helps others.
  3. A strong athlete who stays healthy and active.

We are so happy to support Pacifikah as she finishes her final year. She is a true role model!

Empowering High School Graduates for 21st Century Success

The leap from high school to adulthood requires more than just academic knowledge; it requires a specialized toolkit for the 21st century. Our recent programs have equipped graduates with the resilience and practical expertise needed to navigate a rapidly changing landscape.

Three Pillars of Student Success

To ensure a holistic transition, our curriculum focused on three critical areas of development:

  • Life Skills Training: Beyond the classroom, students mastered essential “adulting” skills, including financial literacy, emotional intelligence, and effective conflict resolution.
  • Career Development: We moved past traditional job searching to focus on career agility, teaching students how to build personal brands and adapt to a shifting “gig” economy.
  • Substance Abuse Awareness: Protecting our students’ futures means equipping them with the facts. Our program focused on health-conscious decision-making and stress-management techniques to navigate new freedoms safely.

Insights from the Higher Education & Skills Expo

A central highlight was our students’ attendance at the Major Higher Education and Skills Expo. This event served as a compass for their next steps in education and vocational training.

Key Expo Takeaways:

  • The AI Revolution: Students explored how Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies are reshaping every industry, from medicine to the arts.
  • Practical Over Theoretical: The event emphasized that “knowing” is no longer enough; “doing” is the new currency. There was a heavy focus on gaining technical, hands-on skills.
  • 21st Century Adaptability: Experts guided students on how to prepare for a “borderless” world of work where the ability to learn and re-skill is the ultimate competitive advantage.

Ready for the Future

By blending personal wellness with professional strategy, our graduates aren’t just entering the workforce; they are prepared to lead it. They leave us with the mindset to embrace emerging trends and the character to handle life’s challenges with confidence.

NRCF Celebrates DirectEd Programme Graduates

The Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF) aims to challenge, empower, and prepare its students for a successful future. This commitment was recently demonstrated when five of our post-secondary students Raymond, June, Boaz, Edmond, and Evelyne completed the DirectEd Development Foundation Bootcamp Programme.

After months of intensive training, they proudly joined 34 other graduates from Kenya and Ethiopia who completed the third edition of the program. These young innovators gained practical skills in three important and in-demand areas:

  • Full-Stack Web Development Fundamentals
  • Generative AI Engineering Fundamentals
  • User Interface and Experience Design Fundamentals

The graduation ceremony, hosted by Blockchain Centre NBO, was a celebration of growth and creativity. Our beneficiaries didn’t just complete lessons; they built real projects, collaborated across teams, solved problems, and pushed beyond their comfort zones.

They leave this program not only with certificates but with the skills and confidence to create, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to the fast-growing tech ecosystem in Africa.

Among the proud graduates, Raymond stood out as one of the 12 top-performing students selected to join the DirectEd Talent Programme. This achievement means he will now access paid internship opportunities with DirectEd and its partner companies.

We celebrate our graduates for their determination and success and will continue doing what we do best, which is to transform lives through education and opportunity.

Empowering Post-Secondary Graduates through Computer training

Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF) remains dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable children through holistic and impactful programs. Among our many successful initiatives is the post-secondary computer training program. This program specifically targets high school graduates who are currently awaiting their transition to colleges and universities. We designed this program to equip students with essential computer literacy, digital skills, and technical expertise required for academic, professional, and entrepreneurial success.

As we progress through 2025, this year’s post-secondary computer training is already underway within our dedicated computer laboratory. We have partnered with Diakonia Training Institute, a respected institution that provides high-quality technical and vocational training to young people in Kenya. This collaboration ensures that the students benefit from a well-structured and industry-relevant learning experience.

The curriculum covers various topics. Students begin by mastering the fundamentals of document processing, then advance to the critical area of database management.

The goals of this carefully crafted curriculum extend beyond simply teaching software applications. They are driven by key objectives aimed at empowering our students to thrive in today’s data-driven world:

  • Provide students with practical knowledge and hands-on skills in key computer applications.
  • Enable learners to apply technology-driven solutions to real-world problems.
  • Prepare students for the digital job market by teaching in-demand computer skills.
  • Foster critical thinking, creativity, and efficiency in ICT-related fields.
  • Equip students with digital skills that will ease their transition into post-secondary education by enhancing their ability to conduct online research, create presentations, complete projects, and collaborate effectively.

Through this comprehensive program, NRCF is laying a strong foundation for our students’ future success. By equipping them with essential computer literacy and in-demand digital skills, we are empowering them to become confident and capable. We are transforming their lives and equipping them to bring positive change within their communities.

Meet Edmond, an aspiring lawyer

Achievement story

My name is Edmond, and I joined the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation in 2014. Before joining the program, life was challenging for my brother and me. We were under the care of our aunt, who had her own child, which made it difficult for her to meet our basic needs. She struggled to afford food, shelter, and school fees for all three of us. Fortunately, my aunt learned about NRCF and the impact it has on providing education to underprivileged children. Desiring a better life for me, she sought their support. She applied, and after the interview process, I was accepted into the sponsorship program.

I completed my primary education at Nelson Mandela Primary School, where I built a solid foundational knowledge. I then transitioned to Agoro Sare High School for my secondary education, a time of further learning and personal development. During this period, I actively participated in transformative programs offered by NRCF, including life skills training and mental health awareness.

I worked hard academically and achieved a B grade in my secondary school examinations, graduating from high school in 2024. This achievement is particularly meaningful to me as it symbolizes a victory over the challenges my brother and I encountered in our early years. In addition to my academic pursuits, I have always enjoyed playing football and the mental challenge of solving puzzles.  These hobbies provide a welcome balance to my studies.

Looking toward the future, I have a strong aspiration to pursue a degree in Law at the University of Nairobi. The dedication and exemplary leadership of the current president of the Law Society of Kenya, Faith Odhiambo, serve as a powerful inspiration for me. Therefore, I hope to contribute to the justice system and make a positive impact on society through law.

The support I have received from NRCF has been invaluable throughout my journey. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities they have provided. I want to thank the organization and my sponsor for investing in me. They have not only supported my education but also nurtured my interests and aspirations. I am excited about the future and determined to make the most of the foundation that has been laid for me.

Join us in transforming lives!
