Diana Njeri’s Journey from Poverty to Professional Success

Raised by a single mother in a household where survival was often uncertain, Diana Njeri remembers the physical toll of hunger and the resilience required to endure it. For Diana, childhood was a shared cup of githeri and long walks in search of a meal. The turning point in her life arrived when she received a scholarship from the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF), bringing stability to an uncertain future.

Building a Professional Foundation

Diana’s journey through Jagiet Primary and Mirithu Girls High School was supported by holistic mentorship. Following her secondary education in 2018, she enrolled in NRCF’s transition programs, gaining essential skills in:

  • Technical Literacy: Completing computer studies to prepare for the modern workforce.
  • Work Ethic: Volunteering as an office cleaner, where she learned discipline and earned a stipend to support her family.

Career Growth and Operations Leadership

After studying Secretarial Studies at Kips College, Diana joined Buildher, a social enterprise focused on empowering women in construction. Her career trajectory shifted rapidly through her dedication and operational skill:

  • 2024 Promotion: After serving as an Operations Assistant managing five warehouses and administrative stores, she was promoted to Facilities Assistant.
  • Independence: Her professional success allowed her to achieve financial independence and reach the milestone of securing her own home.

The Power of Opportunity

Today, Diana stands as a testament to the ripple effect of sponsorship. Her journey from food insecurity to a leadership role in operations highlights the life-changing impact of consistent support. She remains deeply grateful to the foundation and her sponsors, Sam and Greg, for believing in her potential when the world felt small. For Diana, this career success is not just a personal victory but the beginning of a lifelong journey of purpose and impact.
